Samsung and LG Smart TVs are the most popular TV brands for UK and US households. This guide covers which IPTV apps work on each platform and how to set them up correctly.
Samsung's operating system is called Tizen. IPTV app options:
Smart IPTV (SIPTV): The most reliable option for Samsung. Available in the Samsung App Store (search "Smart IPTV"). One-time activation fee paid on the siptv.eu website using your TV's MAC address. Setup: launch app → note MAC address → go to siptv.eu → add your M3U URL → refresh on TV.
GSE Smart IPTV: Available in the Samsung store on some models. More modern interface with a better EPG grid view. Worth trying if you want an alternative to Smart IPTV.
1. From the Samsung Smart Hub, open the App Store
2. Search for and install "Smart IPTV"
3. Launch the app — it displays your TV's MAC address
4. On a browser, go to siptv.eu, click "My Files", and upload your M3U URL with the TV's MAC address
5. Back on the TV, press the refresh button in the app
6. Channels load — first load may take 1–2 minutes
Important: Do not factory reset your Samsung TV after activating Smart IPTV. Factory reset changes the MAC address and requires re-activation via siptv.eu support.
Smart IPTV: Also works on LG webOS via the LG Content Store. Same MAC-based activation as Samsung.
SS IPTV: Available free in the LG Content Store. Less polished than Smart IPTV but functions well as a backup option. No activation fee.
Quick Start / Instant On: Disable this LG feature when using IPTV apps. Quick Start puts the network adaptor in a half-sleep state causing intermittent IPTV disconnects. Settings → General → Quick Start → Off.
Samsung Tizen and LG webOS have limited IPTV app ecosystems. For users who want TiviMate's full EPG and catch-up features, adding an Android TV box or Firestick via HDMI is the practical solution. This gives you TiviMate or XCIPTV on your Smart TV screen while keeping the Smart TV's native apps (Netflix, Disney+) accessible.
Sony and Hisense: Both brands use Android TV on most models, giving direct access to Google Play and apps like IPTV Smarters Pro, OTT Navigator, and XCIPTV without any sideloading.
Channels load but do not play: Change the TV's DNS to 1.1.1.1 in TV Network Settings. Samsung TVs sometimes use Samsung's own DNS regardless of router settings.
App shows as "Not Compatible": On Samsung, this is a regional restriction. Temporarily change the Smart Hub country to a less restricted region, install the app, then change the country back.
