Questions to ask your provider before paying — community recommended list

Starting this thread to share my experience and hear from others in the community. Happy to discuss in detail.
 
My first question is always: what's the refund policy if the service doesn't work on my device?
 
Also ask: how many simultaneous connections are included? Some services only allow one.
 
One simultaneous connection per subscription is a red flag for household use.
 
Good point. Some services only work with specific apps and won't function on others.
 
Ask about uptime guarantees and what happens during server maintenance.
 
Maintenance windows are a reality. Ask if there's a notification system when they happen.
 
Response time matters. A provider that takes 3 days to answer a question is not worth it.
 
I ask for a brief description of their CDN/server infrastructure. Not details, just regions.
 
Knowing whether servers are US-based vs overseas matters for latency.
 
Great list. I'd add: ask how long the service has been running. Established providers are more reliable.
