Replaced the batteries in my MAG remote and now it does not work at all. The device works fine when I use the buttons directly on the box. New batteries confirmed working.

Battery polarity is the most common cause after a battery swap. Easy to accidentally put them in reversed.

Check the polarity first — even if you are sure it is correct. The symbols can be confusing in dim light.

If polarity is correct, remove the batteries and clean the battery contacts with a pencil eraser. Oxidation on contacts prevents connection even with new batteries.

The MAG remote uses IR (infrared). Point your phone camera at the remote while pressing a button — if you see a light flash in the camera view, the remote is transmitting.

No light in the camera means the remote is not transmitting. If batteries and polarity are confirmed correct, the IR emitter may be damaged.

Static discharge is the most common cause during battery handling. Touching the remote circuit board with an ungrounded hand can damage sensitive components.

MAG remotes are relatively inexpensive to replace. If the IR emitter is confirmed dead, a replacement remote is the practical solution.

Yes. Most universal remotes can be programmed to control MAG devices. You need the remote code for your specific MAG model. Common codes are listed in MAG user communities.

HDMI-CEC also works with some MAG models — your TV remote can control the MAG through the HDMI cable if both devices support CEC.

SOLVED: It was polarity. Looked correct but one battery was slightly off-angle. Repositioned and it worked immediately. Simple fix after 30 minutes of unnecessary troubleshooting.

The camera IR test is a great diagnostic tool. Saves time by immediately confirming whether the remote is transmitting or not.
