I want to change my router DNS to 1.1.1.1 as recommended in several threads here. But I have never done this before and I am worried about getting it wrong and breaking my internet. Can someone give clear steps for common router brands?

Changing router DNS is a simple and completely reversible change. If you get it wrong you can always set it back to "Automatic" (DHCP-assigned) to restore your ISP's default DNS. Here are steps for common UK/US/Australian router types:\n\n**Sky Hub (UK):**\n1. Open a browser and go to 192.168.0.1\n2. Click "Security" tab → "Advanced Settings"\n3. Find DNS settings and enter 1.1.1.1 (Primary) and 1.0.0.1 (Secondary)\n4. Save changes — router may restart briefly

**BT Smart Hub (UK):**\n1. Browse to http://bthub.home or 192.168.1.254\n2. Click "Advanced Settings" (may require admin password)\n3. Broadband → DNS settings\n4. Enter 1.1.1.1 Primary, 1.0.0.1 Secondary\n5. Apply

**Virgin Media Hub:**\n1. Go to 192.168.0.1\n2. Login with admin credentials (printed on router)\n3. Advanced Settings → DHCP\n4. Look for Primary DNS and Secondary DNS\n5. Enter 1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1, Save

UK user — Asus router (common for UK broadband users who have replaced the ISP-supplied router): go to 192.168.1.1 → LAN → DHCP Server tab → DNS Server 1: 1.1.1.1, DNS Server 2: 1.0.0.1. Save. Asus routers apply this immediately without restart.

**TP-Link routers:**\n1. Go to 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 (check the router label)\n2. Advanced → Network → DHCP Server\n3. Primary DNS: 1.1.1.1, Secondary DNS: 1.0.0.1\n4. Save — reconnect devices after about 30 seconds

Ireland — Eir routers: go to 192.168.1.254 → Advanced → DNS. Note: some Eir routers use 192.168.0.1 instead. Try both if the first does not load.

Canada — TP-Link Deco (mesh): use the Deco app on your phone → select your network → Advanced → DHCP Server → Custom DNS → enter 1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1. Mesh systems often require app-based configuration rather than web interface.

After changing DNS, all devices on your network will use the new DNS automatically when they next renew their DHCP lease (usually within a few hours) or after you restart individual devices. For immediate effect, restart the device you want to test IPTV on.

How to verify it worked: on your IPTV device, go to the network settings and check DNS. It should show 1.1.1.1 as the DNS server (some devices display this, others do not). Alternatively, test streaming — if channels that were failing now work, the DNS change had effect.
