Starting this thread to share my experience and hear from others in the community. Happy to discuss in detail.

Great thread idea. I've been burned twice by bad services and I wish someone had written this for me.

The most important question is: do they offer a trial? Any legitimate service should offer at least 24-48 hours for testing.

Trial first is rule number one. Never pay for a full subscription without testing on your exact device setup.

Testing on your exact device is key. A service might work great on Android phone but fail on Smart TV.

I always test at peak hours — evenings and weekends. That's when weak services fall apart.

Generally 7pm-10pm on weekdays and Saturday afternoons in the US are the hardest time slots.

This is exactly what I needed. I've been testing during weekday mornings and wondering why everything looks fine.

Testing at off-peak hours gives a false impression. Any server can handle light load.

Also test the type of content you actually watch. Live sports has very different demands than on-demand.

I add a note in my trial: if buffering happens more than twice in a 2-hour session, I move on.

Live sports at high demand moments — like during a major game — is the ultimate stress test.

That's a practical threshold. What's your tolerance for short loading spins vs actual buffering?

Loading spin under 3 seconds = acceptable. Full buffering mid-stream = not acceptable.
