Best IPTV apps for Windows PC and Mac in 2025: what actually works well

I want to watch IPTV on my Windows PC and also on my MacBook. What apps are available and which actually work well? I see mentions of IPTV Smarters for Windows but are there better options?

For Windows:\n\n**IPTV Smarters Pro** has a Windows version available from their website. It works adequately but the Windows UI feels like a ported mobile app rather than a native PC application. Functional for occasional use.\n\n**Kodi with IPTV Simple Client** is more powerful for Windows power users. Full Kodi media centre experience. Requires more setup (install Kodi, add IPTV Simple Client addon, configure your M3U URL) but once configured it is very capable.\n\n**VLC** for quick testing of specific streams. Not practical for daily channel browsing.

For Mac:\n\n**IPTV Smarters Pro** has a native macOS app on the App Store. Decent stability and reasonable interface.\n\n**GSE Smart IPTV** has an excellent native macOS app. The interface is well designed for desktop and scales well to large Mac displays. This is my personal recommendation for Mac.\n\n**Infuse** (iOS/macOS) is excellent for VOD content from IPTV sources but less capable for live TV and EPG.

UK user — GSE Smart IPTV on Mac is genuinely good. The macOS version shares settings/playlists with the iOS version if you use the same iCloud account. I can configure on my phone and have everything available on my Mac without re-entering credentials.

Ireland — Kodi on Windows is worth the setup effort if you use your PC as a media centre rather than just for occasional IPTV. The full Kodi ecosystem (skins, addons, library management) is excellent if you invest the time. Not worth it for occasional use.

Canada — for Windows users: IPTV Smarters on Windows requires disabling Windows firewall/antivirus temporarily during the first installation as some security software flags IPTV APK-style installers. Re-enable security after successful installation.

For Apple Silicon Mac users: the iOS versions of some IPTV apps run natively on M1/M2/M3 Macs via Rosetta or native ARM support. GSE Smart IPTV and IBO Player have native macOS apps. IPTV Smarters' iOS version can run on Apple Silicon Macs through compatibility mode — check the App Store on the Mac.

Australia — one thing to be aware of on Mac: if you use macOS privacy settings strictly (Full Disk Access, etc.), some IPTV apps have trouble writing their database files. Check System Preferences → Security & Privacy → Files and Folders if an app fails to save channel lists.
