Google TV and Chromecast with Google TV: which IPTV apps work and how to install them

Just got a Chromecast with Google TV. I want to use IPTV apps on it. I understand it needs developer mode enabled for sideloading but I am not sure which apps are available natively versus which need sideloading. Can someone give me a clear guide?

UK user — I have TiviMate running on my Chromecast with Google TV and it works excellently. The sideloading process is a bit more involved than Firestick but the result is worth it. Performance on Google TV is comparable to a dedicated Android TV box for most content.
 
Ireland — for users who want to avoid sideloading entirely: IPTV Smarters Pro from Google Play is a solid starting point. It handles both M3U and Xtream Codes connections and gives a reasonable experience without any technical steps beyond Play Store installation.
 
One important note about Chromecast with Google TV compared to a full Android TV box: the remote has fewer buttons, which affects navigation in some IPTV apps. TiviMate's navigation is designed for a full Android TV remote with separate back, home, and menu buttons. On the Chromecast remote you may find some shortcuts missing. Check TiviMate's Google TV remote support before committing.
 
Australia — storage on Chromecast with Google TV is limited (8 GB). If you install TiviMate, XCIPTV, OTT Navigator, and keep apps updated, you will fill storage relatively quickly. Choose your apps thoughtfully and uninstall apps you do not use.
 
New Zealand — the Chromecast with Google TV is an excellent budget option if you are already in the Google ecosystem (use Google TV interface for other apps like Netflix, YouTube etc.). For a dedicated pure IPTV device, an Android TV box with more storage and a traditional remote might suit the use case better.
