Firestick vs Android TV Box for IPTV: which should you buy in 2025?

Trying to decide between a Firestick 4K Max and an Android TV box (like the Mecool KM7 or Xiaomi Mi Box S) for IPTV. I primarily want to run TiviMate and watch HD and 4K content. Which one is actually better for IPTV use specifically?
 
Both are good choices but they suit different users. Here is the honest comparison:\n\n**Firestick 4K Max**: Easiest setup, Amazon Prime/Netflix/etc. built-in, very portable, great remote. For pure IPTV performance, a quality Android TV box wins. The Mecool KM7 Plus has an Amlogic S905X4 chipset with proper H.265 hardware decode and better cooling than any Firestick. Sustained 4K HDR streaming on TiviMate is noticeably smoother.
 
UK user — used a Firestick 4K Max for a year, then switched to a Mecool KM7. The Firestick was fine for most content but thermal throttling on longer 4K viewing sessions caused occasional stutter after 40+ minutes. The Mecool does not throttle because it has a proper heatsink. For 4K IPTV, the box wins.
 
Counter argument for Firestick: the ease of setup and the Amazon ecosystem integration are genuinely valuable. If your household also uses Prime Video, it is seamless on Firestick. The 4K Max handles IPTV well for most users — you only notice the limits at high bitrates or very long sessions.

What about the Nvidia Shield Pro? I have seen it mentioned as the best option.
 
Nvidia Shield Pro is genuinely the best hardware but at a premium price. If you prioritise IPTV performance above all else and budget is not a concern, it is excellent. TiviMate runs flawlessly, 4K HDR is outstanding, and it handles every IPTV task without any throttling. However it is 3–4× the price of a Firestick and more than double a Mecool.
 
Australia — for most users: Firestick 4K Max if you are price-conscious or already in the Amazon ecosystem. Mecool KM7 if IPTV performance is the priority and you do not mind the slightly more technical setup. Nvidia Shield if you want the best and do not mind the price.
 
New Zealand user — Xiaomi Mi Box S is worth mentioning as a budget Android TV box option. Performance is not as strong as the Mecool KM7 but it is significantly cheaper and runs Android TV natively. Good entry point if you want to try an Android box without committing to a higher budget.
